Microneedling

A luscious youthful-looking skin is always pleasing to you as well as the one looking at you. It brings out the confidence in you as you feel happy about your looks. Once you start to age, your skin is the first thing that most people notice. Wrinkles, fine lines, blemishes, sunspots are common occurrences as the skin begins to age. You start to lose volume in your face and your cheeks begin to sag, making you look old and tired. There are several solutions to get back that youthful-looking skin. Some give immediate and stunning results, but they do not last long, whereas others may bring side effects and risks along with them. If you are wondering whether there is a solution, ‘yes, there is one!’. Have you heard of facial rejuvenation combining microneedling with platelet rich plasma (PRP)?

What is Microneedling Facial Rejuvenation?

Microneedling with PRP is a simple yet effective treatment to repair the damaged or injured tissues on your face. It is a groundbreaking anti-aging treatment that uses your blood to treat the damaged tissues. It is a minimally invasive treatment that initiates the regenerative process that results in reduced wrinkles, fine lines, and sun damage.

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma. Your blood is made up of red and white blood cells, platelets, and plasma, which carries blood cells and nutrients throughout your body. Platelets are rich in a growth factor that stimulates tissue recovery by increasing blood flow and cytokines. When you start to bleed, the platelets play the role of a messenger and signal your skin cells to function. The platelets rush to the injury site, plug and form a clot over the bleed, and repair the damage.

The PRP facial rejuvenation therapy uses the platelet-rich plasma that is extracted from your blood and injects it back into your skin. Before your treatment begins, several vials of blood are taken from your body. The blood drawn from you is placed in a centrifuge to process and extract the plasma with platelets. The heaviest particles in the blood fall to the bottom of the vial when the centrifuge spins rapidly. The red blood cells are forced to the bottom of the vial, followed by platelet-rich plasma, which also consists of white blood cells. The top layer in the vial is the platelet poor plasma. The platelet poor plasma is removed, and the vial is placed in the centrifuge again. The white blood cells are separated from the platelet-rich plasma, which is then extracted into a syringe. The platelet-rich plasma is injected into the facial skin that needs to be treated.

What are the Advantages of PRP Treatment?

PRP treatment is widely used for several purposes. Its effectiveness has made this treatment very popular. The advantages of PRP treatment as a cosmetic medicine include the following:

  • The treatment improves your skin texture
  • It helps plump up the grooves under the eyes
  • It minimizes wrinkles and fine lines around your mouth
  • It adds volume to your face, neck, and hands
  • It helps minimize or eliminate acne scars and stretch marks
  • It helps treat wrinkles and fine lines around and below the eyes.

Other Benefits Include the Following:

  • The PRP treatment is a non-surgical and non-invasive treatment. It reduces the risks and side effects associated with other surgical treatments such as a facelift.
  • It is a simple treatment done in a very short duration. There is no downtime associated with the procedure.
  • The results are noticed a week after the treatment and your skin appearance continues to improve in the following weeks as your body begins to produce natural collagen.
  • The results of this treatment are long-lasting.
  • As the treatment is all-natural and the ingredients are extracted from your body, there are not infections, allergic reactions, or rejection of the treatment.

The PRP Facial Rejuvenation Procedure

Are you looking forward to the PRP facial rejuvenation treatment? Your treatment will start with a consultation with Dr. John Laura who will determine whether you are a suitable candidate for the treatment. Your medical history, present medical condition, medications, and family medical history will be reviewed. You are not a suitable candidate if:

  • You are a smoker
  • You take alcohol and drugs regularly
  • You have received other facial treatments recently
  • You use blood thinners
  • You have diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, thyroid and other diseases that Dr. John Laura should be informed about

If you are found to be a suitable candidate, Dr. John Laura may prescribe a blood test as well as a skin biopsy to further clarify that you are suitable. He may also change your medications and suggest a pre-treatment skincare regime. A treatment plan is created based on the depth of the damage on the facial skin.

On the day of the treatment, several vials of blood are drawn from your body. The blood drawn depends on the number of targeted areas to be treated. The vials are placed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma. Your skin is numbed to avoid any discomfort. Dr. John Laura may use a local anesthetic or rub ice to numb the skin. Your skin is thoroughly cleansed to ensure that there is no residue left on the area.

Once the targeted area is numbed and cleaned, the PRP solution is applied to the area. A micro-needling pen is slowly glided across the area which penetrates the dermis level of your skin. The micro-injuries caused by the micro-needling stimulate collagen production and promote healing.

The treated area may be red and look bruised for a couple of days post-treatment. There may also be swelling as PRP is injected into the skin. The results of the treatment can be noticed after two to three weeks. Your skin texture will look improved and will continue to improve for the next few weeks which results in plumper lifted skin with reduced wrinkles and fine lines. If you have realistic expectations from this treatment, you will start to notice the changes in your skin right after the first visit. Usually, depending on the depth of the skin damage, you may need more visits.

Dr. John Laura has several years of experience in PRP treatment. He will help you determine the number of visits you will need and guide you through the procedure. If you are looking for a natural way to rejuvenate your skin, call Dr. John Laura and book an appointment.
