Stem cell therapy - Orange County, with Dr. John Laura

Everybody is born differently. While you may be blessed with good health, your loved one may not. You may remain healthy throughout your life while your friend may either be born with some disorder or develop it later in life. Stem cells have the potential to treat a wide range of diseases. You may have heard of stem cells in movies or news or the like and wondered if the treatment can help you or your loved one. You may also have wondered how can they possibly treat diseases and whether they actually can. Dr. John Laura is known as one of the most experienced practitioners of stem cell therapy in Orange County and can help answer any of your questions concerning the treatment.

Stem cell therapy, also known as regenerative medicine, is the use of stem cells to prevent or treat a disease or a condition. Your cells, tissues, and organs can sometimes be severely damaged or lost by illness, injury or due to a genetic condition. A stem cell is a solution that generates new cells that can be transplanted into your body to replace that which is permanently damaged or injured. It promotes the repair of dysfunctional or injured tissue using stem cells or stem cells’ derivatives.

In addition to stem cells, in some cases we may suggest the use of treatments involving “placental tissue matrix therapy”, also known as “cellular therapy”. Cellular therapy leverages the healing properties of placental derivatives to heal injured tissues.

What Are Stem Cells?

The cells in your body are adapted to perform a specialized function, but stem cells are versatile. They can grow into any type of cell required to replace damaged cells and take over their function. As the raw materials for the body’s internal repair system, they can heal and rebuild tissue anywhere in the body, as needed.

These properties of course make them uniquely suited to a wide range of medical applications, including treatments with a focus on wellness and aesthetics. As the raw materials for the body’s internal repair system, they can heal and rebuild tissue anywhere in the body, as needed.

Your body is made up of many different types of cells, each performing a different function. Stem cells provide new cells for the body and replace the specialized cells that are damaged. Stem cells have the potential to develop into many different cell types, from brain cells to muscle cells. They can serve as an internal repair system and repair the damaged tissue. When a stem cell divides in your body, each new cell has the potential to either remain a stem cell or to become another type of cell that has a more specialized function. Stem cells have two unique properties:

  • They can produce new cells by dividing over and over again
  • They can change to other types of cells as they divide

Where Do Stem Cells Come From?

Several resources of stem cells have been discovered lately. Initially, there were two primary sources of stem cells,

  • Embryonic stem cells: They come from embryos that are two to five days old. Most times, they are unused embryos resulting from an in vitro fertilization procedure. These stem cells can turn into more than one type of cell, and they are called pluripotent.
  • Adult stem cells: These are found in fully developed tissues, like your brain, skin, and bone marrow and have limited ability to give rise to various cells of the body.
    The other sources include
  • Induced pluripotent stem cells: Using genetic programming, regular adult cells are transformed into stem cells to act similarly to embryonic stem cells. In a few words, adult cells are altered to have properties of embryonic stem cells.
  • Prenatal stem cells: The amniotic fluid, that surrounds and protects a developing fetus in the uterus, and the umbilical cord blood are found to have stem cells that can change into specialized cells.

Benefits of Stem Cell Therapy

The benefits of stem cells have grown dramatically over the years. Researchers are trying to uncover ways to use stem cells to treat common chronic problems. Some of the areas where stem cells can bring benefits include arthritis, type I diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, burns, and cardiovascular diseases. Apart from these, there are several benefits of stem cell therapy, which include the following:

  • They speed up the healing process of an injury and prevent the formation of scar tissues
  • They decrease nerve damage and help in reducing chronic joint pain without medication
  • They help generate new heart and blood vessel tissue
  • They increase flexibility, functionality, range of motion and sleep quality
  • They increase the production of collagen and keep your skin and hair healthy

There is no limit to the types of diseases that can be treated using stem cells. Dr. John Laura has several years of experience in this field. Book an appointment with him if you are looking for a stem cell treatment or even if you have concerns regarding this therapy and your health.

Types of Stem Cell-Based and Placental Tissue Treatments at Dr. John Laura's Clinic

Stem cell therapy and placental tissue therapy (“cellular therapy”) are a form of regenerative medicine. These can treat damage to cells and tissues in any area that suffer from signs of aging, injury or genetic conditions. They can be introduced to the body through injections, or applied directly to the skin for example during a facial procedure.

We regularly use stem cell or placental tissue therapy in three main areas:

  • Facial rejuvenation
  • Hair rejuvenation
  • Joint, injury and scar treatment

Our placental tissue and amniotic fluid based treatments enable us to deliver the highest possible concentrations of natural healing elements:

  • Growth Factors
  • Cytokines
  • Chemokines
  • Extracellular Vesicles
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Exosomes
  • Peptides
  • microRNA

If you have a specific health, wellness or aesthetic concern, even if it falls outside these areas, feel free to schedule a personalized consultation with us. We are happy to answer your questions on stem cell treatments and discuss your options in depth.

Face, Skin & Hair Rejuvenation

Stem cell and placental therapies have been known primarily for helping heal injuries. But its not surprising that they have helped patients achieve amazing results when used for aesthetics such as in skin rejuvenation treatments. As with PRP, we can get even better results for youth-restoring, wrinkle reduction by combining these technologies with existing professional facial treatments in an ongoing professional regimen.

Factor X facial treatment

“Factor X” is a proprietary therapeutic derived from perinatal tissues which naturally contain high concentrations of growth factors, cytokines, exosomes, peptides, hyaluronic acid, and extracellular vesicles that contain microRNA. This is a medical grade aesthetic treatment that involves a topical abrasion procedure followed by topical application of the solution.

Factor X can produce a very noticeable improvement in skin quality and fine lines. Some of the most dramatic effects are seen in the skin around the eyes.

Factor X solutions derived from perinatal tissues which naturally contain high concentrations of growth factors, cytokines, exosomes, peptides, hyaluronic acid, and extracellular vesicles that contain microRNA can significantly improve hair growth to combat hair loss in both men and women through treatments involving injections in the scalp. Men experiencing early hair loss or women with thinning hair or hair loss as a result of pregnancy, menopause or inflammatory conditions can enjoy visible new hair growth in as little as two to three months after treatment.

For some patients, this treatment may be used in combination with PRP hair restoration.

Amniotic Derived Nano-Particle Therapies For Joints

It’s tough to feel young when your joints ach and your range of motion makes keeping up an active lifestyle difficult. Injections of nano-particles derived from amniotic fluid are full of therapeutic potential and can significantly improve joint inflammation and promote the body’s own healing. Extracellular Vesicles are nanovesicles that contain protein and microRNA that can be transferred to other cells to support tissue repair and homeostasis. Amniotic fluid derived nano-particles to stimulate healing in joints which have been affected by age, inflammatory conditions, degenerative disease, and other factors. This treatment can potentially be used (under the doctor’s discretion) in tandem with PRP joint therapy. These therapies are so effective that they can potentially delay or prevent the need for joint replacement in some patients.

Interfyl® Human Connective Tissue Matrix

Interfyl® Human Connective Tissue Matrix uses the power of placental tissue to support your body’s natural ability to heal. Unlike steroid injections, the solution in Interfyl helps replace and supplement damaged tissue.

Interfyl provides a structural foundation for weak, damaged tissue. The cell-friendly scaffold provides a favorable environment for cell attachment – the first step in natural healing.

Cells migrate and attach to the Interfyl scaffold. Your attached cells then support healing and repair damaged tissue.

Interfyl® Human Connective Tissue Matrix can be used to support therapies for many soft tissue issues.

VSELs Treatment Therapy

VSEL stands for “Very Small Embryonic Like”. The ability to leverage these cells in a therapeutic method promise enormous health benefits in the field of regenerative medicine.

VSELs have pluripotency which essentially means that they can form into any other type of cell in the body. Their size measures about 1/3 that of an adult stem cell. They are small enough to reach areas that other cells can’t, even crossing the blood-brain barrier.

VSELs are collected through your own blood sample and separated from other cells. These are then put through a process to “activate” them using cold temperatures. They may be combined with growth factors and platelet cells from the same sample. The newly activated VSELs are then returned to body using either an IV infusion or injected into areas that need it.

VSELs are thought to be particularly useful in treating issues related to autoimmune disease, osteoporosis, and other musculoskeletal conditions.

However, as a general anti-aging treatment, VSEL IV’s can offer health benefits in patients who don’t have autoimmune diseases. VSELs create telomerase which restore the ends of DNA in the cell. Thus, cells can enjoy something like a clock reset.

The result can be noticeable improvements in inflammation, aches and pains, improved metabolic function, an increase in energy and more. Some studies indicate that VSELs can improve pancreatic function and thus, for some patients, may help with weight loss efforts.
